Purpose

The Continuing Committee on Evangelism exists to encourage, enable and equip congregations in their witness ministry through workshops, seminars, training events, rallies and direct services so that congregations may more effectively:
  • proclaim the good new of Jesus Christ
  • make disciples
  • strengthen the faith and commitment of active members
  • care for inactive, unresponsive members

Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been give to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20.

We are called children of God, changed and commissioned to connect all people to Christ, some for the first time and some who need a fresh touch of His grace. All of these happenings occur at His initiative in the power of the Holy Spirit, through the Word and prayer.

Just as many Samaritans believed in Him because of the woman at the well’s testimony, it is our prayer that others will say "We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world." John 4:42.

As exemplified in the woman at the well, we have been led to build upon the principle that when you love someone, you cannot help but talk about that person and bring others to meet him or her for themselves. Therefore as our love for Christ deepens, so will our desire to share Him in the words and deeds of our lives.

The Synod Evangelism Team reorganized in the fall of 2007. We are now planning an Evangelism Academy with the focus on prayer. It is our hope to be able to host this event at various locations across the state. An experiential and practical handbook for all pastors and lay leaders will be offered. This could be used at various levels in order to develop and deepen statewide prayer ministries.

Other evangelism helps are being compiled in order to aid congregations in reigniting the evangelism fire of the early church.

Trusting in and depending upon His Spirit’s leading and power, we prayerfully proceed and proclaim His amazing loving grace…

                                           To God be the glory!
